2012 New Year’s Message

THEME: HUMAN BEINGS: CREATED TO WORK. TEXTS: GENESIS 2:15 “The Lord took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” (NIV). Genesis 3:19 “You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil to produce anything…” (GNB). 2Thess. 3:10 “…If anyone will not work, let him/her not eat.”(RSV).

We congratulate all of you God’s people: Private entrepreneurs, Religious, Political, Civic & Kingdom official for the New Year.
We thank God for enabling us to finish the year 2011 and for landing us safely in 2012.
We celebrate with those who have had blessings of various forms in the year that has just ended.
We mourn and sympathize with those who lost their loved ones and had various problems and challenges in the year that has just ended. May our good Lord comfort you.
As a Diocese, we are declaring this year as a year of working hard holistically. The creation accounts in Genesis Chapter 1 & 2 tell us that Human beings were created to work. After the fall of Human beings in Genesis 3, the ground was cursed and work became harder and that through sweat will human beings have what to eat. St. Paul emphasizes that: “Whoever does not work should not eat”. There is nothing for free. Lazy people will pay heavily by living in poverty or perpetually being under slavery.
Let us repent of laziness and resolve to work hard in this New Year.

We need to work hard spiritually: “…Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Phil. 2:12). “…Train yourself in godliness.” (1Tim.4:7-8). Attending worship services, fellowships, Bible Study groups, evangelistic mission, fasting, prayer overnights, repentance of sins, Holy Communion, personal prayer and Bible reading.

Mental work / exercise: Quality thinking to generate ideas that will lead to production of goods and services. Students need to study hard, political and others leaders (family heads inclusive) need to think deeply how our people can be helped to make better our lives / communities.

Physical /manual work: We need to work hard with our body / hands and sweat so as to get what to eat. We condemn all forms of laziness, idleness and redundancy which are a source of many evils. “A lazy mind is the devil’s workshop”

BAD WORKING: We condemn bad working of stealing public funds and earning of salaries for services not delivered. Public servants should work all the mandatory hours.

Jeremiah 17:11. “The person who gets money dishonestly is like a bird that hatches eggs it didn’t lay. In the prime of life he will lose his riches and in the end he is nothing but a fool.”(GNB).

Let us all work holistically to earn earthly and eternal dividends. In addition to the New Year celebrations, this day is special because, it is the day when the Child – Jesus Christ was circumcised. Baptism replaced circumcision in the Church. Rom. 2:28-29 & Gal. 5:6.

Deut 10:16 May the Lord circumcise the foreskin of our hearts this New Year.
